PDG Bobby Viray joined the Rotary Club of Cubao West, Quezon City, RI District 3780 in January 1985 as a charter member. After serving as club president for RY 1993/94, he held various major district positions until he was elected district governor. He has served as a district trainer and adviser to several governors; speaker/facilitator in various district training seminars around the country. He served as District Rotary Foundation Committee (DRFC) Chair for RY 2006-2009. He is a mutiple Paul Harris Fellow.
A dedicated Rotary leader, he holds the rare distinction of having served as district governor for two consecutive years - RY 2002/03 and RY 2003/04 – the first in the Philippines and one of a few around the world.
PDG Bobby was appointed by President John Kenny as Regional Rotary International Membership Coordinator (RRIMC) for Zone 7A which covers the Philippines and Indonesia for RY 2009/10. He also served as Rotary International Zone Membership Coordinator (RIMZC) for Zone 7B covering the Philippines for RY 2006/07 and RY 2007/08. He and Spouse Echel represented RI President Bill Boyd and Spouse Lorna to the DISCON of District 3500 Taiwan in April 2007.
PDG Bobby who was born in Bangar, La Union, Philippines holds MBA and BSBA major in Accounting degrees. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of the East and placed 3rd in the 1973 CPA Board Examinations. He worked as an auditor with the SGV & Co. and occupied top finance and management positions in several multinational companies before going into business. He is engaged in trading, bakeshop and property management; he also provides financial and management consultancy.
PDG Bobby is married to Echel Roska Oppus of Cebu City, a CPA and a licensed realtor. They are blessed with four children. 1) Paolo, the eldest, married, is a civil engineer and works for Ayala Land; 2) Anthony, a BSBA major in Entrepreneurship graduate of De La Salle University, is a licensed realtor and an entrepreneur; 3) Benjamin, a graduate of the University of Santo Tomas, is a licensed physical therapist; and 4) Clare, a graduate of UERM Medical Center is a licensed nurse.
The purpose of the Regional Rotary International Membership Coordinator program is to provide a viable, long-term, strategic approach to promoting membership development by stablishing a network of well-trained Rotarians — knowledgeable about membership development strategies and techniques — to support districts and clubs in achieving membership growth. Zone 7A covers the ten Rotary districts in the Philippines and the lone district in Indonesia.
